There is no Easter table in Campania without a pastiera: it is the dessert of the tradition par excellence, the one that must never be missing.
The pastiera is a legendary dessert, born from the sea. The protagonist of the story is the Sirena Partenope who had chosen the Gulf of Naples as her home where she enchanted everyone with her beautiful voice. As a sign of devotion, seven gifts were brought to her as symbols of fertility, abundance, wealth, sweetness. The gifts were flour, eggs, ricotta, wheat, orange blossom, spices and sugar which Partenope then mixed as a sign of thanks to create the dessert.
